Her parents hail originally from Barbados as well, and she began singing at a young age. She was disturbed with the chaos of her home, as well as the constant fights between her parents. Thus, she started to become a music lover. In high school she formed a band of musicians. She also met music producer Evan Rodgers. He was delighted with her talent.
